My doula journey really began when I was pregnant with my first child. I couldn’t stop researching and learning, soaking in all the information my mind could absorb. Although his birth didn’t go exactly according to my birth plan, I still felt so empowered, supported, and powerful! It truly was a beautiful and life-changing experience. However, I quickly realized this was not the case for a lot of mothers in the US. As time passed, I became burdened by this fact and being the advocate I try to be, had to do something to help! I knew I had to become a birth doula. Lake Norman Doula & Wellness was then born in 2017.
I have worked in a variety of capacities before arriving in the birth world. I studied Exercise Science in college, where I learned the amazing things our bodies are capable of when we treat them properly. I've worked as an exercise physiologist in cardiac rehab, and as a wellness coach in a hospital setting. I was in full-time ministry, working with college students and teenagers. In that capacity, I learned to meet people where they're at, to comfort and to “hold space” for someone.
These experiences brought me to a new understanding of wholeness - body, mind and spirit. This set me up perfectly to team up alongside women in their birth journeys - one of the most life-changing events we can experience!
Just for fun! Getting to know me.

Nicole Burdon
Hi! I’m Nicole.
Trainings: DONA, Spinning Babies, Breastfeeding Education Workshop, Mentorship with Lake Norman Doula
After becoming pregnant with my daughter, I had to be realistic with myself and accept that I knew very little about pregnancy and giving birth. This unfamiliarity drove me deep into learning everything I could about it. Which now has given me the chance to be deeply passionate about providing pre and postnatal care for people of all walks of life.
As a Latin American woman, I am committed to providing culturally sensitive support to all families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Using evidence based techniques, while also using traditional indigenous techniques helps me provide the best care. I believe every birth story is unique and I want to ensure that the families I work with feel heard, respected, and confident throughout their birthing experience.
My mission is to recognize the unique needs of all birthing people, including people of color, as I want to promote better outcomes for all families that I am blessed enough to work with. I believe that every birthing person deserves an empowering experience, and I am committed to help make that a reality.
With love,
Nicole
